It would be hard to find a more sweet tempered and gentle doodle than a newfypoo. The newfypoo is the gentle giant doodle. The newfypoo can grow into a very large doodle but with their sweet disposition they make very affectionate family doodles. 💗 The newfypoo is highly intelligent and is a famously great companion for any doodle lover. Newfiepoos also make a great guard dog that is very watchful to ensure that your family and your property are safe. They make really good nanny dogs for children and they can warn of any visitors with their low and loud bark. 🥷
A couple small things to consider with a newfypoo is that they love being with their owners and they can develop separation anxiety when they are left alone.
They also do not do well in excessive heat and they can overheat in hot temperatures. 🥵

The Newfoundland originates in Canada 🇨🇦 and has a long history as a working dog on ships. The Newfoundland was used as a deckhand to help bring in nets and to rescue any seamen that fell overboard. These dogs are amazing swimmers that have partially webbed feet and excel in the water during their water rescues. 🌊 There are many famous Newfoundland dogs throughout history, one in particular named Seaman was taken on Lewis and Clark’s famous 8,000 mile expedition across the Americas. There are 10 different statues dedicated to Seaman across the United States today. 🐕

Let’s take a quick look at the other half of the newfypoo hybrid.
The Poodle is called Pudel in Germany 🇩🇪 and Caniche in France 🇫🇷 . Both of these names are a nod to the Poodles original breeding use as a water retriever. The German Pudel name translates to puddle or splashing water . The French Caniche name translates to duck dog. 🦆
The Standard Poodles were originally bred as hunters of wildfowl to retrieve the game out of the water. The Miniature Poodle was also bred in France as a talented circus performer 🎪 . These Miniature Poodles were trained to walk tightropes and even perform card tricks and skits.
Both the Newfoundland and the Poodle have long histories as water dogs and companion dogs.

Sizing it all up
There are no size variations when it comes to the newfypoo. They are only size they come in is large. They can weigh between 80 up to 150 pounds and they stand between 20 to 28 inches tall. 🐶

Color Coding, Fur Real
Newfypoos can have straight or curly hair or somewhere in between. They usually end up with a nice dense and wavy coat. They are also usually low shedding. The newfypoo can come in many different colors to include black, shades of gray and different shades of brown or some combination of these colors.
The newfypoo needs to be brushed daily or every other day to prevent matting. They will also need a bath once per month. 🛁 The newfypoo will require a hair trimming about once every 4 to 6 weeks. This can be done by a groomer or the owner can learn the grooming skills and do it themselves. 💈
A quick note on hypoallergenic and what that actually means.
The AKC states that “there is no such thing as a completely hypoallergenic dog”. Unfortunately people with dog allergies are usually allergic to the dog dander 🦠, not the dog’s fur. Granted the dog fur can be a carrier for the dog dander it is not the cause of the allergen. The old school of thought was that less dog hair = less allergen. So breeders would attempt to have as many Poodle genes in a dog breed to lessen dog hair shed. Unfortunately, this does not change the level of dander. Please be cautious regarding the labels of “hypoallergenic” if you have dog allergies. If you would like more info on this please read 22 Hypoallergenic Doodles. 🤧

Working it out
The newfypoo needs a moderate amount of exercise per day to be happy. About 30 minutes of activity will keep them mentally and physically happy.🚶 Due to the size of the newfypoo they need to have a house with a yard, these large doodles would have a hard time fitting into an apartment. Newfypoos enjoy numerous different activities but one of their favorites is anything to do with water. 🏊 Both of the newfypoo’s parent breeds have long histories as water dogs. But if water activities are not your thing they would be more than happy to join you in anything that you are interested in. Owners need to ensure that their newfypoo gets its required amount of exercise per day, they can have a tendency to gain weight if they are not active enough. 😣
⚠️ One word of warning, it is not recommended to have your doodle participate in highly strenuous activities prior to the age of 10 months due to underdeveloped joints and bones. ⚠️

Come, Sit, Stay
The Newfypoo is a highly intelligent doodle that is easy to train. They love learning new things and they respond really well to positive training methods. 🥓 Both of their parent breeds have long histories of working with humans and also being people pleasers which makes training this doodle a breeze. Since this doodle grows so large proper leash walking needs to be at the top of the list of skills to be trained.
As with all doodles, the newfypoo needs early socialization and puppy classes in order to develop healthy habits for life. 👍

Quality of Life
The newfypoo is a fairly healthy doodle that lives between 8 to 12 years of age. They can still be susceptible to the same medical issues that both of their parent breeds are prone to. 🩺 These medical issues include eye issues, heart issues, hip dysplasia and subvalvular aortic stenosis to name a few. Your veterinarian can test for some of these medical issues. 🧪

So now you want a Newfypoo….
If you are thinking about getting a newfypoo you must make sure that you are in love with any combination of traits that a doodle surprise can offer. 🎁 Your doodle may look exactly like a Newfoundland but act exactly like a Poodle. Would you be ok with that? What about the other way around? If you can love 💗 ALL of the traits of both parent breeds then DO IT! Doodles are the best!
I would check at Poodle rescues and also at Newfoundland specific rescues, they may have a mixed breed/hybrid there as well. Also check regular rescues. Just realize that if you want to rescue you may have to wait to find your dog or travel to pick it up. But there are great benefits to rescuing instead of buying. 👍👏
If you decide to buy a puppy please do your research on the breeder and don’t be afraid to ask the right questions. And good luck to you! I hope you find your forever puppy! 🥰
